This page explains what Gaffer: Touchline Assistant ("Gaffer", "we", "us") does with information, as of today. Gaffer is in private beta, so this is short on purpose.

The short version

The Gaffer app (beta)

What you enter stays on your device

Coaches enter teams, player names, jersey numbers, positions, matches, notes and settings. This is saved on your own device, in your browser's storage. It is not uploaded to us. The app does not ask for players' ages, photos, home addresses or contact details.

Backup files

When you save a backup, the app creates a file on your phone. We do not receive it. Where it goes after that (your cloud storage, your email, a computer) is up to you.

Calendar links

If you bring fixtures in from a calendar link, the link is sent to a small service we run on Cloudflare. It fetches the calendar for you and passes it back to your phone, because browsers do not let the app fetch it directly. If you do not import a calendar link, nothing is sent.

Fonts

The first time the app opens, it loads its fonts from Google Fonts and then keeps a copy on your phone. This means Google's font servers can see ordinary request details such as your device's IP address.

Beta sign-in

During the private beta, the app sits behind a Cloudflare Access sign-in. Approved testers get a one-time PIN by email. Cloudflare handles those sign-in emails and ordinary request data to run the sign-in.

Microphone

Push to speak is optional and off until you switch it on in Settings. It is the only permission the app asks for. Turning speech into text is done by your phone's own speech service, not by us. On Chrome and Android this can mean your audio is sent to the browser maker's speech service. On iPhone it is Apple's service. We do not receive the audio. Those services have their own privacy policies.

This website

This website sets no cookies and has no analytics, ad or tracking scripts. Its fonts and images come from our own address. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, handles ordinary technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Our Instagram link leaves this site; Instagram has its own policy.

When you email us

If you write to support@gafferadvantage.com, we receive your email address and whatever you tell us. We use it to reply, and to fix problems and improve Gaffer. We keep it for as long as it is useful for that. You can ask us to delete it.

Children

Gaffer is a tool for coaches and other adults. It is not for children to use. Coaches type in player names, and those names stay on the coach's device. Coaches are responsible for having permission from players' parents or guardians to enter their names. If you think a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your team's data is on your phone, so you control it. You can delete players and teams inside the app, or clear Gaffer's website data in your browser settings, and delete any backup files you saved. Because we do not hold your data, we cannot get it back for you. Save a backup now and then.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your information. We do not have your team data to share. The services named above (Cloudflare, Google Fonts and your phone's speech service) handle information as described on this page.

Changes

If we add features that change how information is handled, such as accounts or cloud backup, we will update this page before they launch and change the date at the top.
